A week today the Grade 9
girls and their team leaders plus support staff will leave on the first ever
Wykeham Collegiate ‘Simpler Journey’.
The excitement is growing and
anticipation of this adventure of the body, mind and spirit is running high for
all concerned.
Groups of girls have been
going out for fairly strenuous walks accompanied by those teachers who will
lead them.
They have also been allowed
to wear their trail shoes and hiking boots around school so as to ‘break them
in’.
Bike riding lessons, backpack
packing and personal hygiene advice and tent pitching efforts have been in
full-swing as well as tetanus shots for many and first aid briefings for the
leaders and support staff.
Logistics are coming along
nicely and food provisioning is beginning to fill up Paula’s pantry in the
kitchen.
I will be accompanying The
Journey girls as a support driver for the duration of their adventure.
I will cover a few more of
the days leading up to our departure next Tuesday morning, the 18th
of March. Thereafter, internet access allowing, I will post a blog each evening
of some of the events of that day for the groups on The Simpler Journey.
In this way you will be able
to keep up-to-date with their progress and exploits on this wonderful quest of
theirs.
